Features
MatadorU is based entirely online. Once you become a student, you can access the content from anywhere in the world.
There are six elements to the Travel Writing Program:
- The Course Materials (12 Weeks): A comprehensive curriculum that includes writing assignments, recommended reading, and a step-by-step guide on everything from the elements of narrative nonfiction and other forms of Travel Writing, to social media, to pitching editors and getting published.
- The Market Blog: A go-to resource for both students and alumni, the Market Blog features relevant market leads, residencies, fellowships and grants, and other opportunities in traditional and new media. Whenever possible, Matador editors will include insider insight and advice about how to approach specific opportunities. We’ll also provide direct contacts and recommendation letters when appropriate. The Market Blog is both a place to get information as well as leave information, including your personal feedback, contacts, recommendations, and experiences with specific editors, markets, and publications.
- The Student Forums: The forums allow students to discuss course material with other students as well as Matador editorial staff. This is the nucleus of MatadorU, the central place for you to network, make social media and promotion calls, and engage in creative collaboration.
- Writing Labs: Writing Labs are weekly public workshops curated by Matador Editors and open for all students to benefit from feedback.
- Custom Blog: All students will be given their very own MatadorU blog – featuring all the functionality and expandability of WordPress. This is where you will publish your assignments and other professional writing.
- Continuing Education Modules: Once students graduate from the Travel Writing Program, as alumni they have lifelong access to Continuing Education Modules, supplemental courses that explore the latest in branding, SEO, and new media / writing that are continuously being developed by Matador Editors and guest contributors.
