WordPress deleted my blog without warning! Eeek!

Has anyone else had this problem? It was here yesterday but today I only get a page that says ‘This blog has been archived or suspended for a violation of our Terms of Service.’ I’m really really freaked out/upset as I put a lot of work into it and have no idea what I did wrong. I read over their terms of service and can’t think of any I might have violated. The whole blog is gone from my Dashboard. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Could you get it back?

And I just went to their forums to see if this was something that has happened to other people and got this: You’ve been blocked. If you think a mistake has been made, contact this site’s administrator.

I’m baffled. I really am.

And it’s back, after a lot of emailing and querying. Ugh. They say it was by accident. Not reassuring at all. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Hmm. I’m forwarding your messages to tech to see what happened. Thanks for letting us know. If you ever need to reach me immediately, feel free to email me: julie@matadornetwork.com

hi koangirl – just to be clear, you’re talking about your blog hosted on wordpress.com correct? If that’s the case, it’s probably just a glitch.

It was my wordpress.com blog. I guess it was a glitch but it was an unnerving glitch!

hey everyone, just wanted to make a quick point here … but before that, first up, i’m sorry to hear about the suspension, and i’m obviously super glad it came back.

the point i wanted to make though is that having your blog hosted at either wordpress.com or blogger does put you in potential jeopardy of having them delete or suspend your account. it seems rare–i’ve never heard of it happening to anyone i know–but if you read the terms and conditions, you’ll see that they do have this right.

this is one argument for having a WordPress blog hosted at your own server–like bluehost.

not trying to scare anyone . . but i have seen this convo on the internet before and the ‘paying for hosting’ argument makes a lot of sense to me.

I pay to keep my livejournal ad free and safe but since my WordPress blogs are quite new (just since the new year, really) I hadn’t got around to thinking about paying for a host. Would I ned to redo everything on wordpress.org or can I get around that? I’m not that tech-savvy (not to the point of being able to write my own code, anyway– I’m fine with fiddling around with templates and such)
